Summer Pests: Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees are aggressive wood destroying insects that are known for drilling 1/2" perfectly round holes to create their dwelling in your wood deck, gazebo, pergola or fascia.

The female carpenter bee stays in the hole with her larvae while the male bee fly around the outside to protect the area. If you watch closely, you may see two male bees jousting in the air over the female!

Although the male carpenter bee may dart at you to protect its territory, it will not sting. The female carpenter bees are known to sting but not often.

Not that we want you to stay around long enough to inspect...carpenter bees resemble bumble bees, but their lower body is bare and shiny black, while bumble bees have hair. Also, bumble bees don't nest in the wood, but rather on the ground
