It's almost Spring cleaning time! Don't forget to add your home's downspouts to your list of things to clean! Leaves and debris can cause water build up and should be cleaned out twice a year -spring and fall (quarterly if you have pine trees). Water build up from cluttered downspouts can be a major contributor to damaging your home’s foundation, wood and landscaping. In addition, the still water in cluttered downspouts is a playground for insects such as millipedes, centipedes and earwigs.
Additional downspout cleaning tips:
· Add gutter guards to assist in eliminating build up and improve flow of water
· Add extenders at the bottom of the downspouts to push water away from home
· Check for Leaks: While flushing debris out of the gutters and downspouts, watch for any leaks
